Wayne Buxton
I started running for Bristol A.C. in the boys age group. I didn’t have a great deal of success as a young athlete but I loved the sport, I worked hard and I found myself a great coach. Eventually, the hard work paid off and I represented England at cross country and Great Britain & N.I. over the marathon distance. My personal best time for the marathon 2:16:38 was achieved in Rotterdam 1991.
I enjoyed racing abroad and I was a regular visitor to France, which was my favourite country to race in. I also attended many training camps in Portugal which I always found inspiring, they were my chance to train as a full-time athlete, even if it was just for a week.
Towards the end of my competitive career, I became a guide for the British Paralympic team and soon after became the Endurance Coordinator for UK Athletics Paralympic athletes for the period of 1998 – 2004. One of my tasks was to organise the running camps for the endurance squad and I hope to share that experience and knowledge with you.
I hold an Endurance Level 2 coaching certificate and I actively coach many athletes of varying abilities through my company Classic Running. I am also a qualified mountain bike guide for WildSwimBikeRun who are based in Bath.
